What Does The Mini Implant Process Look Like?
Dental procedures can be worrisome when we don’t know what to expect. Here’s what the typical process looks like:
- At your first appointment, Dr. Hopkins will use a type of 3D imaging called cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) to create a comprehensive image of your teeth, jaw, and surrounding tissues. These X-ray images allow us to diagnose, plan, and treat you with an incredible level of detail.
- Dr. Hopkins and lab technicians will assess your unique needs and design a subsequent treatment plan. Then, we’ll set a date for your mini dental implant surgery.
- On the day of the surgery, Dr. Hopkins will use a local anesthetic to minimize discomfort. We’ll place the implants by first making several small holes in your jaw. We’ll then put the titanium posts into the holes before securing and tightening them. Finally, we’ll attach and secure the dentures to the posts. You’ll leave with permanently anchored dentures the same day.
- After surgery, any discomfort can be mitigated with over-the-counter pain medications like ibuprofen. Dr. Hopkins recommends a soft diet for the first few days as you heal.
- Most patients can expect to resume their normal daily activities within 24 to 48 hours.
